What is 24 hour monitoring?

There is no alarm system that can effectively do its job unless the proper authorities can be called when needed. Alarm monitoring simply means that your alarm system will automatically send coded information to the monitoring center (Central Station) about the problem that is occuring, such as an intruder, panic alarm, fire or medical emergency.
Alarm monitoring is a service that you subscribe to and pay a nominal monthly fee. When you sign up you are assigned a special number (account number) that identifies you to the monitoring facility. This account number is also programmed into the main control of your alarm system. When an emergency occurs, the alarm system dials a pre-programmed phone number to the computers at the monitoring center and then transmits coded information which includes your account number and specific information about the problem that is happening. Once the monitoring facility receives this information, a live operator immediately acts upon the signals based on the instructions you have given.

Can the Central Station go "off-line"?
If the equipment at the Central station should ever fail, the alarm signals would never be received, however, Central Stations and alarm manufacturers have taken major steps in design and processes to reduce this possibility. Just to name a few, our Central Station uses "redundant systems" meaning two computers tied together sharing the same information. If one computer fails the other is ready to go at less than a moments notice. Backup generators are in place and start automatically upon a power failure, in conjunction with battery backup systems.
